Meet Maureen and Banksia Yoga
The name Banksia Yoga is inspired by the beautiful sprawling banksia tree, and the many birds it nurtures through its flowers.
The centre of the Banksia represents the still point in us all, that which is unchanging through time and the chaos of life.
The flower of the Banksia is like life, swirling, busy, vibrant. The leaves around the Banksia represent how the 8 limbs of Yoga can support us through all stages of our lives and continually help us return to that still point in the centre.
Maureen Germein is an experienced and qualified yoga teacher committed to sharing the many benefits of yoga with others. Yoga became part of her life in the early 1990's while studying Social Work at the University of South Australia. She immediately loved the connection it gave her to her body and her breath.
Yoga has been a constant companion through her professional work as a counsellor, and through the pregnancies and births of her 4 children, and in her role as carer to her son with a disability. She completed her Diploma in Hatha Yoga from Yoga Spirit Studios in 2010, and has taught Yoga to individuals and groups since then.
A member of Yoga Australia Maureen is influenced by a range of teachings, notably Donna Farhi and Kristine Weber who she has continued to study with since commencing teaching. She has studies mindfulness with psychologist and Buddhist teacher Mal Huxter and is strongly influenced by mindful self compassion practices
In addition to her Yoga teaching, she works professionally as a counsellor and is a Mental health Accredited Social Worker. She currently works at Flinders University Counselling Service.
Maureen values empowering people to find well-being using their own resources. She is particularly interested in the overlap between mindfulness based counselling approaches and movement based yoga therapy.
